I am Malala

by Malala Yousafzai

The Story

Malala has grown up with her two brothers, Khushal and Atal, brave mother and dedicated father in Pakistan. Malala has loved studying at the school built by her father, now the headmaster, near her home. However when she is just ten years old, the Taliban take control of the part of Pakistan where she lives and tear her away from school and the education she so enjoys. Malala does not want to stop reading and learning new things so, with her friends, goes to school in secret and silently protests with her incredibly courageous father. On the ninth of October 2012, on the way back from school on her bus, Malala is shot in the head by the Taliban to punish her for her rebellion. But she has never stopped fighting for every child to have an education.

My Thoughts

As I mostly read fiction, I was slightly apprehensive about reading “I am Malala”, but Malala’s experiences kept me entranced from the first page all the way to the last. I am truly inspired by Malala’s boldness, perseverance and resilience to this day. She is the youngest ever winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
