The Story
“It’s Andi. Andi with an I”. Andi loves Basketball. She is one of the best members on her school team and devotes her time to playing matches, and training, perhaps with a sneaky Star Wars film thrown in as well. But when her parents decide to move closer to the hospital where they work in London, Andi has to move school, threatening her brilliant basketball career. Andi is crestfallen about having to move to Saint Simeon’s, especially after just starting to play Point Guard for her current team. But that is before Andi realises that Saint Sim’s has a basketball team with trials tomorrow! Andi is overjoyed, but on arrival at the trials, she discovers that the basketball team is only for boys…
Meanwhile, across the globe in the Philippines, Bernardo, Andi’s long lost brother, is the key to the survival of San Andres, the Filipino Island on which he lives, due to his late father’s mysterious powers. When Bernardo finally gets his papers to come to England to join his family, Andi hopes he will love basketball as much as she does. But Bernardo is a giant eight feet tall.
What will happen to San Andres without Bernardo? Bernardo has an incredible story to tell…
My Thoughts
This is a brilliant book! You will learn about different beliefs across the world, the power of a sport you love and being kind to new people around the globe. My favourite character is probably Mrs Green, a teacher at Saint Sim’s, although you might not agree with me until the end of the book!
