The story
Set in Afghanistan where cruelty of the Taliban lies behind every corner, Parvana and her family live in one cramped room. The mean and crafty rules of the Taliban require women not to go outside without the company of a man. So when Parvana’s father gets arrested for talking about memories of going to University in Europe and not in Afghanistan, there is no man left to accompany a lady outside, as Parvana’s brother Hossain died in a bombing attack.
Therefore there is no food to go around and so starvation threatens the family for two days. Pavarna bravely takes up the job of secretly sneaking out of the sweltering room disguised as a boy in-order to feed her family.
Parvana takes great risks just to provide food and other bare necessities of life. Can Parvana survive such danger and can her secret last forever?
My thoughts
This book will teach you how some are not as privileged as others and make people think twice about how lucky they are. Parvana will take you on an amazing journey through danger and relief and where hope grants it’s magic. This is what I loved so much about this book.
