The story
Wonder follows the story of August Pullman, a 10 year old boy who is scarred by a severe facial deformity. Auggie has been home schooled until his parents decide that it is time for him to attend Beecher Prep Middle School. An initial visit makes Auggie realise that he won’t necessarily receive a warm welcome from everyone.
When a girl Summer sits next to him in the cafeteria Auggie realises that it is not to hard to make friends, but the horrible Julian and his clique have a different idea of welcoming a “freak,” as they call Auggie, to Beecher Prep.
Can Auggie survive Middle School?
My thoughts
This is a wonderful book. It captures the characters perfectly and shows that good triumphs over bad. As English teacher Mr Brown says, “When given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind.”
